  • Because traditional peace treaties between generals and politicians haven’t worked. The National Dialogue process will help them finally work.
  • Because the vast majority of South Sudan’s citizens live in dire poverty.
  • Because up to 2 million have fled conflict and economic disaster, with 1 million alone living refugee camps in neighboring Uganda.
  • Because 1.3 million of those who haven’t fled face imminent starvation.
  • Because 1 out of every 10 children in South Sudan is an orphan.
  • Because South Sudan can change — into a vibrant, prosperous, diverse, and peaceful country.

What’s your reason — Why Have a National Dialogue?

Never forget: South Sudan, July 9, 2011 — Independence Day

The SSND was launched to enable the people of South Sudan, through grassroots consultations, to do the following five things:

  1. Redefine the basis of their unity as it relates to nationhood;
  2. Redefine citizenship and belonging;
  3. Restructure the state;
  4. Renegotiate social contract; and
  5. Revitalize their aspirations for development and membership in the world of nations.

    Hello Andrea, you’re right that consultations should be held in smaller counties like Boma. We have actually conducted many more consultations that we indicate online — we simply don’t have the resources to report on everything.

    A complete reporting of all consultations will be published on this site by July 2018.

    Thanks for your time.
